Nursing in schools

Earthquake Drill  I’ve been a pediatric nurse for almost 19 years.  I’ve worked on a medical floor, in a gastroenterology clinic, and I’m now nursing in a school. School nursing is a 180 degree turn from nursing in a hospital or clinic.  I changed to schools because I wanted to be on the same schedule as my kids.  I felt like time was flying by way too quickly, and I was missing a lot of it. It was one of the best decisions of my life.  Also one of the craziest.  I am in a middle school. A middle school, you guys.  These kids are a hot mess.  Thankfully, so am I.  Turns out, I fit right in.  I love them.  They’re crazy.  I get eye rolls at home all the time.  Now, I have the chance to experience those eye rolls every day of my life.  How lucky am I??? This is my third year in the schools, and I love it. It has been a struggle.  I mistakenly thought school nursing would be easier than the clinic/hospital setting. ...

Baby crazy

My babies are now 11 and 15, so this list won’t work for them, but my friends are now starting to have grand babies. For baby showers, there are always clothes, diapers, and wipes. I like to give things that not everyone will think of. I hope this works well for someone. One of my favorite gifts to give a mom to be is the Gerber baby colic drops. Colic can hit hard. When my oldest was a baby, I used to call 5 pm the hour the devil came out. He was so fussy! He’s still fussy now, but it’s more grunting and eye rolling.
